On December 30, 2002, the United States filed a complaint in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois under the Equal Credit Opportunity Act and the Fair Housing Act against Mid-America Bank, FSB, claiming that the bank discriminated against minority neighborhoods in its market area. Specifically, the federal government alleged that the bank had no full-service branches in minority neighborhoods, purposely designed the boundaries of its lending area to exclude these neighborhoods, and avoided working with real estate professionals and builders in minority neighborhoods.
On April 17, 2003, the case was dismissed pursuant to an agreed consent order. On January 9, 2008 the consent order was terminated and the case was dismissed with prejudice.
