Case Summary

In March 2003, the EEOC district office in Detroit, Michigan brought this action against the Electronic Data Systems Corporation in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. The complaint alleged that the defendant violated Title VII of the Civil Right Act when it selected an employee for termination as part of a workforce reduction because she was pregnant. After the defendant's motion for summary judgment was denied, the case went to trial, and in late April 2004 the jury returned a verdict in favor of the defendant. The court entered the judgment on the jury's verdict and ordered the EEOC to pay the defendant's costs of $3,704.05.
