Court-ordered receiverships
Only rarely is receivership used in civil rights cases -- although as the list below demonstrates, receivership is a less uncommon remedial device in cases dealing with public housing, and cases in the District of Columbia. A currently high-profile receivership is drawing to a close in Plata v. Brown (California prison medical care), but another near-receivership is just getting underway in Allen v. City of Oakland (Oakland police department).
