[This summary is temporary while we research the case further.] In 1983, plaintiffs brought suit against the United States, alleging that the federal government's policy of excluding and interning Japanese Americans during World War II was wrongful and seeking damages. After Congress passed the Civil Liberties Act of 1988, which provided reparations to Japanese Americans and Japanese residents who had been interned during WWII, the case was dismissed.
