[This summary is temporary while we research the case further.] On February 18, 2025, seven incarcerated individuals filed a lawsuit against the Governor of Massachusetts and others in the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, alleging that they faced untenable and illegal delays in scheduling parole hearings. In 2024, the Supreme Judicial Court had held that no one could be sentenced to life without parole for a crime they had committed before they turned 21. As a result, approximately 120 incarcerated individuals, including plaintiffs in this case, became due for parole hearings.
