On April 23, 2024, a transgender individual filed suit against the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security ("TDSHS") in state court. Represented by the ACLU of Tennessee and private counsel, the plaintiff challenged TDSHS's refusal to to issue accurate drivers licenses and state identification documents to transgender Tennesseans. On May 12, plaintiff filed a renewed petition, adding a second transgender individual as a plaintiff.
