On October 21, 2025, Jim Jordan, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi referring to the U.S. Department of Justice for investigation former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency John Brennan. The letter alleged that Brennan knowingly made false statements during an interview before the Committee on May 11, 2023, as well as in testimony he provided during a hearing in 2017. Altonaga of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Brennan, through his defense attorneys, revealed that he had been formally advised by prosecutors from the Office of the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida that he is the target of a grand jury investigation examining "the circumstances surrounding the production of the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment about Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election in the United States" and raised concerns about "irregular activity" in conjunction with that investigation, including alleged leaking of information to the media and judge shopping.
