President Trump was sworn in for his second Administration on January 20, 2025, and immediately set out to transform the American immigration system, the civil service, anti-discrimination law and practice, and many other aspects of government. The Clearinghouse will track the ensuing litigation and post (and frequently update) case summaries and documents. We'll include civil rights and also challenges to Presidential authority, even if those are not in areas traditionally considered civil rights. You can follow the work in two special collections:
The litigation will be fast moving; as of this post (1/23/2025) several challenges have been brought against the Trump Administration's effort to narrow birthright citizenship; they are posted here. In State of Washington v. Trump, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, Reagan appointee John Coughenour today entered a temporary order enjoining implementation of the birthright citizenship Executive Order.
