Resource: Police Assessment Resource Center: County of Los Angeles

December 31, 2016

The Police Assessment Resource Center (PARC) was founded to provide independent, evidence-based counsel and research on effective, respectful, and publicly accountable policing to law enforcement agencies, government entities, and community groups. It was founded in 2001 by the Vera Institute of Justice with the generous support of the Ford Foundation.

The County of Los Angeles voluntarily engaged PARC and its staff to monitor the fourth-largest law enforcement agency in the United States, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, for more than 21 years. It has been hailed as "the most successful citizen oversight agency in the United States."
