In 2011, the American Council for the Blind and their Massachusetts and California affiliates entered into negotiations with Major League Baseball (MLB), the association that runs North American professional baseball. Specifically, the parties sought to expand and continue efforts to provide accessibility technology for fans with visual impairments.
The MLB and their media arm MLB Advanced Media, agreed to adopt the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 AA in 2012. Under the agreement, MLB agreed to expand on previous to extend web access to people with visual impairments. The MLB would do this by applying new systems and standards to existing web-based content. These systems would support technology such as screenreaders and interface interaction software that support different user input devices, allowing the visually impaired to enjoy the resources of the Internet.
