Clearinghouse coding in progress

Case Summary

(This summary is temporary while we research the case.) This case concerns Florida's SB7050's provision assessing a $50,000 fine for each noncitizen found to be helping individuals to register to vote.

Hispanic Federation, a Latino civil rights group, filed suit against Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, arguing that the provision violated Equal Protection. On March 4, 2024, Chief U.S. District Judge Mark E. Walker struck down the provision.
