On December 12, 2025, Plaintiff filed this lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Transportation in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in order to challenge the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s decision to terminate more than $33 million in federal grant funding for California’s commercial vehicle safety programs. Plaintiff, the State of California, requested declaratory judgment pursuant to the APA that the Department's decision was arbitrary, capricious, an abuse of discretion, or otherwise not in accordance with law, along with preliminary and permanent injunctive relief.
