On October 1, 2025, prisoners incarcerated in Blair County Prison in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania filed a putative class action suit against the prison, as well as prison officials and the District Attorney’s Office, alleging that they were being subjected to “cruel and unusual” prison conditions.
The plaintiffs alleged that the prison had black mold and was infested with mice. The plaintiffs further reported finding mouse feces on meal trays, as well as being bitten by these mice. They also alleged that they are receiving small food portions inadequate to meet the needs of adults. In addition, the plaintiffs stated that they were being denied access to computers, hindering their ability to work on the case, and that they were being prevented from attending court hearings and from making legal calls. Members of the class also reported overcrowding, and experiencing assault from other inmates. The original plaintiff who filed the lawsuit, representing the putative class pro se, sought 20 million dollars in damages.
This case has been assigned to Magistrate Judge Keith A. Pesto.
As of February 2026, more inmates are seeking leave from the court to join the class.
