Case Summary

[This summary is temporary while we research the case]. This case challenges Hawaii police officers' failure to record in-station custodial interrogations. The plaintiff had been arrested by police and taken into police custody for interrogation. Though there was a recording device in the interrogation room, the plaintiff's testimony was not recorded. The plaintiff, in his complaint, alleged that the police officer had paraphrased and misquoted him, including by incorrectly stating that the plaintiff had confessed to possession of methamphetamine.
