Christine Hansen, one of the first 12 women hired by the FBI, filed a class complaint with the Civil Service Commission Complaints Examiner on September 19, 1977, alleging that the FBI had discriminated against women in hiring, training, and in the field. The Complaints Examiner, Department of Justice, and EEOC Office of Review and Appeals largely found in Hansen's favor, concluding that the FBI had discriminated on the basis of sex and mandating corrective action. Upon conclusion of the administrative proceedings, in 1984, Hansen filed this action in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia seeking to reverse certain unfavorable aspects of the administrative ruling and requesting a court order compelling administrative enforcement of the mandated corrective action.
