{This summary is temporary, while we research the case.) This case grew out of Disability Rights Florida v. Jones, in which the parties reached a settlement in 2017. This case was an enforcement action in state court, treating that settlement as a contact. As far as research reveals, this was the first such state-court enforcement action for a federal prison/jail settlement since the Prison Litigation Reform Act was passed in 1996, encouraging this mode of enforcement. See 18 U.S.C. 3626(c)(2)(B). Disability Rights Florida filed this action in 2019, and it was resolved by settlement in 2021.
