On May 20, 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice sued the City of Troy, Idaho, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho, for religious discrimination. The complaint alleged violations of the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act of 2000 (“RLUIPA”), 42 U.S.C. §§ 2000cc–2000cc5, when the city enforced zoning rules to deny Christ Church a conditional use permit allowing it to operate a religious assembly in a Troy business district.
This lawsuit remains ongoing.
