Case Summary

[This summary is temporary while we research the case]. On September 17, 2024, the University of Maryland Students for Justice in Palestine filed a lawsuit against the University of Maryland, College Park over the university’s decision to cancel their approved October 7 vigil and impose a systemwide ban on all student-organized events that day. Plaintiff alleged that the cancellation, prompted by external political pressure and justified by vague safety concerns, was viewpoint discrimination, content-based censorship, and an impermissible restriction on student speech in a public forum.
