On October 24, 2025, the Ethical Society of Police filed suit against the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the U.S. Attorney General (AG). Community Relations Service (CRS), an agency within the DOJ, was created following the passage of Title X of the Civil Rights Act with the express purpose of: “provid[ing] assistance to communities and persons therein in resolving disputes, disagreements, or difficulties relating to discriminatory practices based on race, color, or national origin.” Plaintiffs allege that Defendants made the decision to abolish CRS behind closed doors, without input from affected stakeholders, and then buried the announcement of their decision in obscure budget documents, in what appears to be an effort to shield the decision from public scrutiny.
