This case challenges a plan to destroy the East Potomac Park and East Potomac Gulf Course in order to construct a Trump-style golf course, allegedly in violation of the Administrative Procedures Act.
On February 13, 2026, Plaintiffs - a D.C. based environmental nonprofit, along with two individuals - filed this lawsuit against the U.S. Department of the Interior, the National Parks Service, and their leadership in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Plaintiffs sought to protect East Potomac Park and the East Potomac Golf Course, which Defendants planned to destroy in order to construct a sprawling, champion-style golf course similar to those owned by President Donald Trump. Defendants had allegedly already begun taking steps, including dumping fill (loose material to modify terrain) and debris from the East Wing demolition on the East Potomac Golf Course.
Plaintiffs argue that Defendants’ failure to comply with the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act, the National Historic Preservation Act, and the National Parks Service organics act during the adoption and implementation of this plan constituted violations of the Administrative Procedure Act. Represented by Democracy Forward Foundation, as well as private counsel, they seek declaratory relief, a set-aside, and an injunction of Defendants' implementation of the "Washington National Plan."
This case is ongoing.
