On September 21, 2015, a private individual filed this pro se lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico against Donald Trump and the "National Republican Party," presumably intending to sue the Republican Party of the United States or the Republican National Committee. He alleged that as a presidential candidate, Donald Trump, discriminated against and publicly disgraced minorities, including Hispanic individuals specifically, and discriminated against women. He also alleged that Trump made disparaging comments about Senator John McCain and fellow candidates Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina. He sought injunctive relief preventing Trump from continuing to run as a presidential candidate in the Republican primary election, using “disgraceful actions and language” in debates sponsored by the Republican Party, using facilities or emblems of the Republican Party, and appearing at events leading to the party's national convention. He also sought attorney fees and costs. He filed an amended complaint on February 24, 2016, without material changes in his allegations. Judge Jose A. Fuste presided over the case.
On March 22, 2016, the individual filed a motion requesting voluntary dismissal of the lawsuit due to his hospitalization for health issues. On March 29, 2016, the court granted the motion and dismissed the action without prejudice.
