(This summary is temporary while we research the case.) Four named plaintiffs filed suit against the City of Daytona Beach in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. Plaintiffs sought to challenge an ordinance prohibiting asking for donations in certain circumstances and public spaces as a violation of their First Amendment rights. On January 6, 2023, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a statement of interest.
