Case Summary

(This summary is temporary while we research the case further). Two African-American individuals and the Alabama State Conference of the NAACP, on behalf of its members, sued Madison County Commission and several election officials under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 in the Northern District of Alabama on April 14, 2025. Represented by private counsel and NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, plaintiffs alleged that the voting system in Madison County denied Black individuals of an equal opportunity to elect a candidate of their choice.
