On July 2, 2025, Right to Be, South Asian Network (SAN), St. Barnabas Senior Center of Los Angeles (SBSS), and Asian Pacific American Legal Resource Center (APALRC) filed this lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York against the Bureau of Justice Assistance and its Acting Director; the Office of Justice Programs and its Acting Head; the U.S. Department of Justice; and the U.S. Attorney General. Plaintiffs challenged the termination of the Congressionally created Anti-Hate Crimes Grant Program, which was carried out through mass-mailed termination notices that lacked any individual explanation. They alleged that Defendants' actions violated the Administrative Procedure Act, the Fifth Amendment, Separation of Powers, and were ultra vires.
