On Sepatember 2, 2026, the ACLU of Hawaii filed suit on behalf of a transgender student and their parent against Maui Preparatory Academy in the Circuit Court of the Second Circuit in the State of Hawaii. The suit challenges Maui Preparatory Academy’s discriminatory policy, which prevents transgender students afrom using facilities, playing on sports teams, or living in rooms with students of the same gender. Plaintiffs argue that this policy violates Hawaii's anti-discrimination law and that the defendants engaged in unfair and deceptive practices by implementing it.
