On May 5, 2025, the DOJ Civil Rights Division announced an investigation into the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office (HCAO) to determine whether a new policy adopted in April 2025 violated the law by directing prosecutors to identify and address race and age disparities when making decisions about how to resolve cases. On February 26, 2026, the DOJ closed its investigation.
