Case Summary
This is a case challenging a manufactured-home-financing company’s longstanding business practices. On January 6, 2025, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) filed this lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. The CFPB sued Vanderbilt Mortgage and Finance, Inc. for violations of the Truth in Lending Act (TILA) and the Consumer Financial Protection Act of 2010 (CFPA). The CFPB alleged that Vanderbilt made mortgage loans to borrowers without making a reasonable and good-faith determination that the borrowers could repay them according to their terms. The CFPB sought a permanent injunction, damages, restitution, civil money penalties, and costs against Vanderbilt. The case was assigned to District Judge Charles E. Atchley Jr.
After a change in administration, on February 25, 2025, the CFPB filed a notice of voluntary dismissal. Later that day, the case was dismissed.
