In this case, Renee Good's family sought to hold senior Trump administration officials and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent who shot and killed her personally liable for her death. Good was killed during "Operation Metro Surge," a January 2026 immigration enforcement campaign in the Twin Cities. On October 1, 2026, Good's brother, as trustee for her next of kin, and her partner filed this suit against the ICE agent who fired the shots, other agents at the scene, and six senior Trump administration officials who allegedly directed the operation. They sued in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, alleging a conspiracy to deprive Somali and Hispanic Minnesotans of equal protection under 42 U.S.C. §§ 1985(3) and 1986, Fourth Amendment excessive force under Bivens, and Minnesota tort claims.

In another case filed the same day and in the same court, which named the United States as the sole defendant, Good's family sought damages under the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA). The case is Ganger v. United States.
