On May 28, 1993, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against the Texas Department of Transportation under 42 U.S.C. § 2000e, et seq. ("Title VII") in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. The Department of Justice asked the court for injunctive relief, alleging that the defendant participated in employment discrimination on the basis of race.
On June 24, 1993, the District Court (Judge Lynn N. Hughes) entered an order which approved a Consent Decree agreed upon by both parties.
