Case Summary

Disability Rights North Carolina, the state’s protection and advocacy system, represented an individual plaintiff with a disability in a lawsuit filed on March 14, 2018 in the United States District Court, Western Division of North Carolina. The plaintiff alleged disability discrimination under Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 against Youth Villages, a non-profit corporation, seeking declaratory, injunctive and any other relief allowed. The lawsuit was brought because Youth Villages refused to hire plaintiff as a Transitional Living Specialist due to her lack of a driver's license and need for transportation assistance. Prior to filing suit, plaintiff filed a Charge of Discrimination with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) against Youth Villages and received a right to sue letter from EEOC. The case was assigned to Martin Karl Reidinger. On May 15, 2018, the Plaintiff dismissed her lawsuit with prejudice.
