Case Summary

(This summary is temporary while we research the case.) This case concerns allegations of harassment and abuse experienced by an incarcerated transgender woman. Plaintiff, a transgender woman in the Maryland prison system, filed suit under the 14th Amendment and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on April 18, 2023 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. Plaintiff was held with male inmates while in pretrial detention for six months after the correction centers she was held in refused to recognize her legally changed name and gender identity. Plaintiff's counsel included Brown, Goldstein, & Levy. On December 1, 2023, the court granted plaintiff's motion for a temporary restraining order.
