Case Summary

(This summary is temporary, while we research the case.) In November 2024, the incumbent Democratic candidate narrowly beat the Republican candidate in a closely contested race for the open seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court. The Republican candidate filed a protest with the State Board of Elections, arguing that 60,000 votes cast in the election should be discounted because the forms these voters were given to fill out did not ask for some information that they should have under North Carolina law. When the State Board of Elections refused to disqualify the votes, the Republican candidate filed a writ of prohibition with the North Carolina Supreme Court, asking them to toss out the votes. This case is ongoing.
