This is a case about alleged racial discrimination in college admissions. On March 22, 2025, an individual who was denied admission to Cornell University, his father, and the advocacy group Students Who Oppose Racial Discrimination (SWORD) filed this lawsuit against Cornell in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York. Filing pro se, the plaintiffs sued under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 42 USC § 1983. They alleged that Cornell discriminates against Asian American applicants in its admissions process, in violation of Title VI and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The plaintiffs sought declaratory and injunctive relief, including mandatory training and compliance measures instituted at Cornell. The case was assigned to Judge Elizabeth C. Coombe.

According to the complaint, one of the plaintiffs was denied admission to Cornell and 15 other elite colleges despite his credentials, which included having a near-perfect score on the SAT and a GPA higher than 4.0, managing his own start up, and being offered a PhD-level job at Google before graduating high school. The complaint cited multiple pieces of evidence to support its assertion that anti-Asian discrimination is widespread at elite American universities, including surveys from admission officers and statements made in litigation documents of the 2023 Supreme Court decision SFFA v. Harvard, which held that Harvard's race-based affirmative action program was unconstitutional.

The case is ongoing as of April 2025.
