On December 3, 2025, plaintiffs, dedicated and respected employees of the U.S. Agency for International Development (“USAID”), sued USAID in U.S. District Court for the District of District of Columbia. In their lawsuit, plaintiffs alleged that within days of the Trump Administration coming to power, they were removed from their workplace for allegedly supporting policies that advanced “DEI” or “DEIA” functions - although in practice, they were merely complying with federal civil rights laws. Suing for declaratory and injunctive relief to reverse their firings and receive back pay, plaintiffs alleged their firings violated a number of federal statutes, the First Amendment's free speech guarantee, and Fifth Amendment's due process protections. The statutes included Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII), the Administrative Leave Act (ALA), the Civil Service Act (CSA), and the Administrative Procedure Act (APA). This case was assigned to U.S. District Judge Sparkle L. Sooknanan.
This case is ongoing.
