[This summary is temporary while we research this case.]

On October 20, 2026, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), Democratic Governors Association (DGA), U.S. Senate and House Minority Leaders, Nevada State Democratic Party (NSDP), and a registered California voter filed suit in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia against the President of the United States, U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), U.S. Attorney General, U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Secretary of Homeland Security. The plaintiffs alleged that the defendants, under the President’s direction, disseminated misinformation about voter fraud to justify federal interference in state election administration, including demands that states review allegedly inaccurate lists of noncitizen voters. They further claimed that DHS and DOJ threatened state officials with criminal prosecution for noncompliance with federal directives to remove voters or segregate ballots, including a 48-hour ultimatum to California regarding over 20,000 registered voters. The complaint asserted that these actions constituted an unlawful federalization of election administration, violating constitutional and statutory safeguards. The plaintiffs sought declaratory and injunctive relief, including prohibitions on further interference with state election procedures and threats against officials.

This case is ongoing.
