On May 19, 2025, the DOJ Civil Rights Division opened an investigation into whether the City of Chicago discriminates against white people in its hiring practices. According to the Division’s notice letter, the investigation was prompted by remarks by the Chicago Mayor during a speech to a predominantly Black church touting the number of Black officials in the Mayor’s administration.
