In August 1998, the Chicago Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Ameritech Corporation, Ameritech Services, Inc., and IL Bell Telephone Company in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. We do not have a copy of the complaint, but as per the agreed order, the cause of action seems to be a violation of the Age Discrimination Act by engaging in a pattern and practice of unlawful discrimination of employees over age 40. The parties settled the lawsuit through an agreed order within a week of filing. The terms of the agreed order require Ameritech to provide $1,000,016.63 in monetary damages to 40 individuals, along with refraining from discriminating or retaliating.
