Case Summary

In March 1999, the Baltimore District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against La-Van Hawkins UrbanCityFoods in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. We do not have a copy of the complaint; therefore, the exact allegations involved are unknown. After some discovery and scheduling orders, the case was tried by a jury in June 2000, and the jury returned a verdict for the defendant. Thereafter, the EEOC filed a motion to amend the verdict which was denied in early July 2000. The EEOC then appealed the case in September 2000, but the appeal was dismissed in late October of that year.
