Case Summary

Three former FBI career employees—Jamie Garman, Blaire Toleman, and Michelle Ball—filed a putative class action lawsuit on March 31, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against FBI Director Kashyap P. Patel, Attorney General Pamela J. Bondi, and their respective agencies. The plaintiffs alleged that since January 1, 2025, defendants engaged in a systematic campaign to terminate FBI employees based on their perceived political affiliation or involvement in investigations related to President Trump. Specifically, the complaint alleged that plaintiffs worked on investigations including Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigations into alleged election interference and classified document retention, and that defendants fired over 50 FBI employees without due process while publicly defaming them by accusing them of "weaponizing" their government positions. The plaintiffs brought claims under the First and Fifth Amendments, alleging politically motivated retaliation and violations of procedural due process, and sought reinstatement, injunctive relief, and attorney fees.

The case was assigned to Judge Jia M. Cobb.

This case is ongoing.
