On September 18, 2025, the DOJ Civil Rights Division announced that it had opened an investigation into whether the City of Austin, Texas, discriminated against men and white people in violation of Title VII. 

Per the DOJ notice letter, the investigation was prompted by plans posted on the City’s website by the City’s Office of Equity and Inclusion, Equity Division which outlined efforts to eliminate racial disparities.
