In April 2002, the Memphis District Office of the EEOC brought this action against Shaner Hotel Group Limited Partnership, a hotel chain (d/b/a Radisson Downtown Memphis). We do not have a copy of the complaint. However, according to the settlement agreement, it alleged that the defendant discriminated against the charging party, an African American employee, and a class of other African American employees because of their race in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In December 2002, a settlement conference was held and the parties reached an agreement in January 2003. Under the terms of the settlement agreement, the defendant agreed to pay $197,000 in damages and back pay, to be divided among six individuals.
