On July 13, 2006, the San Francisco office of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit under Title VII against Meadowview Community Action, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California. The EEOC alleged that the defendants had violated the rights of two complainants by firing them on the basis of their gender and replacing them with males.
The defendants failed to appear in the case or answer the complaint, and on November 16, 2006, the EEOC filed a motion for a default judgment. The court repeatedly postponed status conferences in the case in order to give the defendants an opportunity to defend themselves from the allegations. On July 3, 2007, the EEOC renewed their motion for a default judgment, and the court granted the motion on March 13, 2008, entering a default judgment against the defendants. The court ordered the defendants to pay each of the complainants $760 in lost wages and $15,000 in damages, for a total of $31,520. Since we have only the docket, complaint, and entry of default in the case, we have no further information on the proceedings.
