Case Summary

Two Black Muslim men were removed from an Alaska Airlines flight after a fellow passenger raised complaints about one of the men, who had been  texting in Arabic. Represented by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the plaintiffs filed this case on August 2, 2022. The plaintiffs filed suit against Alaska Airlines in the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington. The plaintiffs alleged that Alaska Airlines discriminated against them in violation of 42 U.S.C. § 1981 and state law. The men sought injunctive relief, declaratory judgment, damages, and attorneys’ fees. The case was assigned to Judge Ricardo Martinez.

Alaska Airlines has yet to file an answer and no dispositive motions have been filed yet. This case is ongoing.
