On September 29, 2005, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ("EEOC") filed a lawsuit in the Middle District Court of Florida, under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, against CNC Developments, Inc. The EEOC sought injunctive relief, compensatory damages, punitive damages, and other forms of affirmative relief claiming that the defendant terminated the complainant's employment after its management found out she was married to an African American.
On March 30, 2007, after little substantive litigation, the District Court (Judge Susan Bucklew) entered a consent decree where the defendant, among other things, agreed to pay the complainant $27,500.
