The Seattle District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. in the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington in September 1998. The complaint alleged that the Defendant violated Title VII's prohibition of discrimination based on sex by failing to give employment applications for cart pusher to two potential female applicants. There were no major procedural events before the parties notified the court in September 1999 that a settlement had been reached. The consent decree, which was approved by the court in January 2000, required Wal-Mart to pay a total of $5500 to the complainants. It also required Wal-Mart to conduct two annual training for its managers and report a summary of complaints to the EEOC.
