Case Summary

The EEOC's Detroit office filed this suit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, Detroit division against Ford Motor Company and its former subsidiary, Visteon Corporation on September 29, 2000. The suit alleged that the defendants violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by withdrawing a job offer after learning of complainant's disability and by subjecting applicants to pre-offer medical exams. The case ended up settling and a consent decree was entered July 15, 2002. The terms of consent decree mandated Visteon paying 11 complainants a total of $415,000, in sums ranging from $5,000 to $92,619. The defendants agreed to refrain from discriminating or retaliating in violation of the ADA, and to implement ADA training for its human resources and medical personnel. The decree was entered in 2002 and scheduled to last 2007. No further docket entries exist, so the case is closed.
