Case Summary

The EEOC's Phoenix district office sued Short's Grading and Disposal, Inc. on September 25, 1998 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona. The EEOC's complaint alleged that the defendant violated Title VII when it discriminated based on sex. The EEOC filed a partial motion for summary judgment against the defendant's affirmative defenses and the defendant filed a motion for partial summary judgment on some of the aggrieved class' sexual harassment claims in February 2000. The EEOC's motion was granted in part and the defendant's denied in September 2000. The parties entered into a consent decree on February 11, 2002, which stipulated that the defendant would pay $60,000 in damages to the aggrieved class, revise and distribute its EEO policy, provide Title VII training to its managers, and report changes in its EEO policy to the EEOC semiannually.
