The EEOC's Chicago office filed this suit on March 10, 2003 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against Consolidated Freightways Corporation of Delaware, Inc. The complaint alleged that the defendant violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act by subjecting black employees to a hostile work environment. Numerous status conferences were held prior to the court receiving notification of settlement from the parties on April 30, 2004. The settlement agreement explained that defendant had filed for bankruptcy. Each complainant was awarded a $77,500 "unsecured pre-petition" claim in the defendant's bankruptcy proceeding. There was no injunctive relief specified in the settlement agreement.
