Case Summary

In February 2002, the San Antonio District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Enterprise Rent-A-Car Company of Texas in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas alleging violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 ("ADEA"). Specifically, the complaint alleged that the defendant failed to hire applicants within the class of individuals protected under the ADEA, individuals age forty and older, who were qualified for its management trainee positions in its Austin, TX area facilities because of their age. After several scheduling orders, the parties settled in April 2003 through a consent decree. The four-year decree, containing a non-discrimination clause, required the defendant to: post an ADEA notice, provide ADEA training for its managers involved in recruiting and hiring for its management trainee positions, report to the EEOC at specified intervals, perform an annual audit, and pay $160,000. In addition, the defendant agreed to set a goal of hiring five qualified individuals from the protected age class to fill available management trainee positions in the Austin metropolitan area each year. The decree was entered in 2003 and scheduled to last 2007. No further docket entries exist, so the case is closed.
