The Philadelphia District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Honeywell International, Inc. (formerly known as Alliedsignal, Inc. and Automotive Aftermarket) in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey in June 2002. According to the September 2004 EEOC Litigation Settlement Report, the complaint alleged age discrimination in violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA). The EEOC alleged that the "defendant, a global diversified technology business, laid off, terminated, and demoted sales managers and sales representatives in various locations nationwide because of their age." The case was dismissed pending settlement in February 2004. In September 2004, the case "was resolved with a two-year consent decree that requires defendant to pay amounts ranging from $275,000 to $475,000 (which include attorney's fees and pension benefits) to six Charging Parties, and $8,000 each to 25 class members, for a total of $2,150,000. The decree also provides that defendant will not engage in any employment practice which constitutes unlawful discrimination under the ADEA." The defendant also agreed to conduct ADEA training for its managers and post a notice to potential claimants.
